Yūgen: Bitter Root
July 31st, 2019
Cora O [16:45 via Cobra Clutch Crossface] | Kankao Matsudaira X
The Best of Three series raged on as Cora once again squared off against Kanako. Cora was down 0-1 going into the bout. She and the rest of the people in the arena knew that it was imperative for her to step up her game.
And step it up she did.
Cora was particularly aggressive in throughout the course of the match. Mind you, I said aggressive, not reckless. Cora’s goal was to continuously push the pace and keep her opponent on the back-foot. And to her credit, she executed that plan to near perfection.
After connecting with a few early kicks, Cora shot in and took Kanako to the mat with a double-leg takedown. I imagine that Kanako had been watching a bunch of tape on her opponent. Why? She immediately went into guard position, just in case Cora tried to attempt a submission.
Though, Kanako guessed wrong. Instead of going for an armbar or leg lock, Cora began to blast Kanako in the mush with grounded palm strikes. A fair amount of those blows connected before Kanako lifted her arms to guard against them. It was the right thing to do, but it left her open. Cora switched to side-control and drilled Kanako into ribs with her knee. It might have hit her just right, because Kanako let out this ugly groan.
In the midst of Kanako’s pain, Cora nabbed her left arm. A cross armbreaker resulted. Cora upped the ante as she simultaneously slammed her boot into Kanako’s face. And let me tell you, they weren’t love taps.
Most people thought there was no chance that Kanako would come back. Kanako had gotten caught; and there wouldn’t have been any shame in submitting right there. However, that wasn’t Kanako’s MO. Therefore, she gritted her teeth, dug deep, and dragged herself to the edge of the ring. Eventually, she was able to get her free hand onto the bottom rope. That led to a rope break.
Despite her aching left arm, Kanako began to mount some mighty offense. Kanako countered a Cora takedown attempt with a rolling sole-butt kick. She then followed up with an alternating kick flurry to Cora’s ribs. Afterwards, Kanako was able to drop Cora with a jumping back kick. The crowd really got behind Kanako’s onslaught and threw out some cheers as she went for the pinfall. She received a two-count as Cora kicked out.
Cora and Kanako began to break out the big moves as the match weathered on. A snap DDT counter nearly sent Cora’s head through the canvas. Cora later returned fire by flooring Kanako with a superkick and then drilling her with a mean roundhouse. Cora nearly earned a victory with a leg hook belly-to-back suplex. She bridged into a pin, but Kanako kicked out. Ms. Matsudaira would then turn Cora inside-out with a discuss lariat.
It looked as if the match was all over when Kanako charged in for her Pink Sparkle running blockbuster. However, Cora grabbed onto that hurt left arm mid-move, popped her hips, and slammed Kanako to the mat. She also maintained her grip. Cora then manipulated that arm and placed Kanako into a Cobra Clutch crossface.
Kanako wasn’t ready to quit. Once again she dragged herself to the edge of the ring and stretched out her hand. She was just fingertips away from breaking the hold―
That is until Cora rolled and brought them both back into the center of the ring. At that point, Kanako had no other choice but to submit.
Per usual, the fans in attendance showed their appreciation by clapping and cheering for both wrestlers. It was a good bout; both wrestlers fought their hearts out. And Cora win brought the count to 1-1…
We’d all be treated to another match very soon
The Yūgen Eternity Champion, Milena LeCavalier, appeared on the screen. Even though it was early in the evening, Milena seemed raring to go. She donned a black, red, and silver version of her attire. And off course, the Eternity Championship completed her ensemble.
Milena stated that she admired Rin, just a little bit. It took courage to step up to the newly crowned champion, considering that she had just suffered a number of devastating losses. Milena let it be known that she admired that sort of heart...
But all the admiration in the world wouldn’t stop Rin from getting her ass kicked later that evening. Milena stated that she was the Yūgen Eternity Champion for a specific reason―it was because she did what no one else in the company could. She defeated the mighty Kagami; she toppled the Ace. So while going up against Rin wouldn’t be easy, she felt more than confident that she’d get the job done.
I’d hate to marginalize everyone’s work in the ring. All eight of those women were working their asses off and putting on a show. Nonetheless, it’s difficult for me to write and convey the match’s highlights. And that is due to what happened at the end of the bout…
Shion had just tagged into Mt. Kanno. The two veterans began clubbing and working over Himawari. Shion drilled the young woman with an enziguri and then pushed her into Ainu’s waiting arms. Her Silver Lightning Croyt's Wrath was on the horizon—
And then there was a commotion in the crowd.
The camera panned over just in time to spot those four masked women knock out five security guards. Some other guards stepped up, but they got clobbered too.
They descended upon the ring. Mt. Kanno dropped Himawari and turned to face the group, as did Shion.
Shion and Ainu told everyone to leave the ring. Seiko, Candy and Kayo lingered a bit; they knew what was happening. But ultimately, they deferred to Ainu and Shion’s discretion. Senkou Shimai followed suit…
But Shikimi remained.
And in fact, she boldly stepped up to the masked group. Shikimi told them that what they had been doing was dishonorable. She said that they weren’t crusaders, heroes, or martyrs―they were just despicable human beings.
Her comments seemed to strike a nerve.
The masked woman who’d done the talking in the past? She reared back to kill Shikimi with an elbow―
But it never connected.
Not with Shikimi, anyway. Mt. Kanno pushed Ms. Kurokawa out of the way and took the brunt of the blow. Shikimi ended up outside the ring. And after that elbow landed, the rest of masked crew jumped the veteran. It looked like an old school gang beating. Mt. Kanno attempted to fight back, but it was futile.
After Ainu had been handled, the crew turned their attention to Shion. Shion rushed the woman and drilled her with forearm shot, but a vicious straight right punch toppled the Galaxy Warrior’s world. Another member leapt up and clobbered Shion is a massive chop. A diamond cutter floored Shion.
Things didn’t end there.
Shion got drug out of the ring by her boot. And hail storm of punches rained down upon her head. Well, that was until she got lifted up. A nasty powerbomb compressed her spine against the ring’s apron. Shion let out a blood curdling scream. That screen was quickly muffled by a chair that was hurled at her head; it connected flushly.
Their last act of violence as a spinning hook kick that knocked Shion out cold.
By that time, the police had arrived. They quickly yoked the masked women up and escorted them off of the premises. The masked women? They didn’t seem bothered. In fact, they appeared to be laughing and joking as they were stuffed into the back over two police cars.
That laughing and joking? That pissed me the hell off. But there wasn’t much time to think about that; I needed to get some medical attention for Shion.
I personally watched as the police loaded the women into the back of their cars and towed them to the station. In the meantime, Prince HITOMI came out and attempted to lift the crowd’s spirits. She picked up the microphone and began singing a song. It was a ballad. And believe it or not, it was pretty nice. She had skills. Her song distracted the crowd and allowed them to focus on something else for a while. I later thanked her for that.
After checking in with the police, I told everyone that they could commence with the merch shilling. And while it was a lighter crowd than usual, the dollars still flowed. We sold out of Adrianna, Dani, Kagami, and ASURA t-shirts. Though, everyone made a fair amount of money.
In total, the intermission was about fifty minutes. Afterwards, it seemed as if the crowd was okay to continue. And so, we did.
Yūgen EXceleration Championship
Adrianna Wilde O [23:40 via Soccer Kick] | Hisano Fujikawa X
Despite everything that had happened prior, there was quite a buzz in the air as this match began. It was a bout that people had been anticipating for about a month. Therefore, they pushed away all the vile images they’d seen and did their best to get into the match.
I’ll begin my recap by mentioning Adrianna. There was a noticeable difference in how she approached Hisano, compared to their first encounter. She’d been quick to act and rash that first time; and, perhaps she had allowed her emotions to get the better of her.
That wasn’t the case this time.
Adrianna has a Cloud Nine level of zen as she methodical tussled around with Hisano in the early goings. Hisano? She was well aware of her opponent’s state of being. And in fact, I could tell that it bothered her, just a bit.
There was an early collar and elbow tie-up. Adrianna pushed against Hisano and forced her into the ropes. A simple clean-break occurred before they reset in the middle of the ring. Another collar and elbow tie-up. That time, Hisano was the one in charge. She advanced upon Adrianna and forced her to the ropes. And of course, her break wasn’t clean.
She balled off and smacked the shit out of Adrianna’s left cheek.
At that point, everyone could see what Hisano’s game was—she intended to send Adrianna into a fit of rage. That would muddle her mind and potentially cost her the match.
But to her credit, Adrianna didn’t take the bait. Not in that moment, anyway.
The EXceleration Champion and the challenger then engaged in a bit of chain-wrestling. That was in Hisano’s wheel-house; though, Adrianna certainly held her own. In the midst of their grappling, Adrianna nearly caught Hisano in a Fujiwara armbar. Fortunately for her, the Dark Empress was able to slip out of it. Later on, Hisano was able to catch Adrianna in a grounded sleeper hold. And honestly? It looked as if Adrianna was going to fade away at one point—
But Hisano released the hold.
The former Eternity Champion was pissed off once she got to her feet. And she took it out on Adrianna. Disrespectful boots connected with the EXceleration Champion’s face. She also received some slaps as she stood to her feet.
And then came the whammy.
Hisano got in Adrianna’s face and started disrespecting her. Hisano said Adrianna was a worthless, talented piece of shit that wasn’t worth of stepping foot in her ring. She mentioned that Adrianna was only kept around because she had a mildly okay looking face. There were some other insults too (some about Adrianna’s relationship), but I won’t repeat them. And mind you, Hisano spoke in English; she wanted the champion to understand every word.
Well, Adrianna’s zen left her then.
Ms. Wilde fired off a series of nasty forearms. It was one of the few times I’d witnessed Hisano get overwhelmed; she backpedaled into the corner. Though, there wasn’t any safety in that corner. Those forearms transformed into chops. And those chops eventually turned into punches.
A straight right punch hit Hisano in the throat and floored her.
Adrianna certainly got an earful from the referee. No more closed fists. She nodded her head and drug Hisano out of the corner and went for the pinfall. Two-count.
Hisano knew it was a real fight then. And truthfully, it excited her. But that excitement didn’t protect the former champion from all the kicks that Adrianna decided to dish out to her prone opponent. A few moments later, Adrianna headed to the corner and sat on the top rope. She leapt off when Hisano finally rose back up.
It would have been a wicked Silicon Buster front lungblower variation, if Hisano hadn’t caught her. But the Dark Empress did; and, she turned it right into a cradle DDT. Adrianna’s leg got hooked for the pinfall, but she was able to kick out.
Adrianna received a few stomps to the sternum. And then came an ugly delayed knee drop. The move? It was clean. However, Hisano’s knee came down directly on Adrianna’s throat. I assumed it was some payback for that punch earlier in the match. Adrianna rolled around, weezed, and gasped for air. A wicked smirk appeared Hisano’s face as she admired her handiwork for a moment. However, she then grabbed ahold of the back of Adrianna’s head. She rammed the champion into the corner and then drug her face across the bottom rope.
Hisano’s cruel and punishing offense lasted another three minutes. That’s when the EXceleration Champion mounted a mighty comeback. Hisano attempted to dump her opponent with a suplex, but Adrianna countered with a brainbuster. Hisano? She played it safe and rolled to the outside. Well, except she wasn’t safe out there either. Adrianna vaulted over the top rope and landed on the apron before she clobbered Hisano’s chest with a soccer kick. Man, was that a mean shot. She also rolled Hisano back into the ring and attempted to pick up the win. Two-count.
Various strikes connected with Hisano’s body as both wrestlers made it to a vertical base. Adrianna then looked to take Hisano’s head off with a high roundhouse―
Hisano ducked it.
She went right into a sleeper hold. Adrianna? She thrashed and tried to fight out of it; that only made things worse. And just when it seemed like Adrianna was about to fade, Hisano popped her hips and dumped her on her head with a sleeper suplex.
The air got sucked out of the room. Very, very few people had kicked out of that suplex. Hisano smiled as she dropped down for the pinfall―
And at the last possible second, Adrianna got her boot on the bottoms ropes.
That elicited mighty cheer from the crowd. A few fans also started shouting her name, trying to will her on. I think those shouts had an effect on Adrianna, because she did indeed get up and start firing back once more. The most notable highlight of her attack as an high-angled Rydeen bomb. That had Hisano reeling for a good while.
A few minutes later, Adrianna lit Hisano up with chops to the chest. A kill shot was tossed out, but Hisano ducked it and went right into a sleeper hold. In order to get out of it, Adrianna charged into the ropes. Hisano maintained the hold as they both rolled backwards. However, Adrianna leaned backward and made it her feet. She then stomped down viciously on Hisano’s face. No more sleeper hold.
Hisano headed to the ring apron to recover. In the meantime, Adrianna leapt onto the middle rope. She stalled for a moment before she sprung into the air and cleared the top rope―
Hisano’s head went crashing into the ring apron via a Tequila Hangover. It was a nasty spill, that’s for sure. Even the crowd was unsure how to react. A hush floated throughout the arena.
Adrianna used her boot to force Hisano back into the ring. And even though she’d just had her bell rung, Hisano attempted to stand. And while she was a bit wobbly when she got there, she did make it to a vertical base. She even mustered up the strength to drill Adrianna with a couple of slaps. But the EXceleration Champion put a stop to that by completing a standing switch.
She then locked in a sleeper of her own. Hisano still had some fight in her; she did her best to break free. But, Adrianna kept twisting her neck and making things difficult.
Adrianna probably could have gotten a submission victory out of the deal, but that wasn’t what she was shooting for. After a moment or two, she dropped Hisano to the mat and hit the ropes. She then rebounded and smashed Hisano with a running soccer kick. Adrianna dropped down and went for the cover. She earned the three-count.
Rin Nishiyama was seen on the screen. She appeared prepared and confident as she spoke about Milena and her Eternity Championship match.
She talked about her first Eternity Championship match against Kagami. She mentioned that she doesn’t usually get nervous before a match; but she was deathly nervous about that one. Of course, those nerves settled once she hit the ring.
Rin says that this time will be different. Her nerves? They won’t be a factor in this match. Why? Because she’s more seasoned now. She’s had the experience of challenging the Yūgen Eternity Championship. She’s had the opportunity of wrestling overseas. And in case people have forgotten, she herself is a champion within Yūgen already.
She nodded her head and said that she was ready.
Yūgen Eternity Championship
Milena LeCavalier O [21:15 via Extinction Crisis B] | Rin Nishiyama X
The Yūgen crowd was still on a high from the EXceleration Championship match. That was an awesome thing, actually. It meant that the fans would carry their energy into the main event. And they did just that.
It wasn't long before the lights dimmed down to a low level. D’s “7th Rose” started playing throughout the arena. The fans? They erupted once Rin stepped out from the back. Her purple and silver attired shined brightly under the lights as she made her way to the ring. Her Ecstasy Gate Championship belt did as well.
There was a confidence in her stride; there was also a mild smirk on her face. And having known and hung out with Rin, I could tell she wasn’t faking it. She wasn’t nervous; she was looking forward to the bout.
Rin circled the ring once before she slid underneath the bottom rope. She received another round of applause as she strolled about the ring. Rin removed her championship belt from her waist as the music died down. Jackson Eppley’s “A Place Darker Still” began to play shortly afterwards. The Yūgen Eternity Champion made her way out after awhile. Her blood red attire was a bit ominous.
And let me tell you, there was no smirk on Milena’s face; there was a mean glare, though.
Milena kept her eyes focused on Rin as she descended to the ring. She too rolled underneath the ropes. However, Milena didn’t stroll around like the challenger did. In fact, she walked straight up to Rin and got in her face. Milena then unfastened the Yūgen Eternity Championship and told Rin to get a good peek at it; it was all she was going to get that evening.
Once more, Rin simply smirked.
Afterwards, both wrestlers posed for pictures and adhered to all the other pre-match formalities. Once all that was taken care of, the referee called for the match to begin.
Napalm fell as soon as the bell rang. Milena and Rin immediately charged each other and traded forearms. They came in fast and sharp. Either of them backed down after thirty seconds. Milena was the first to connect with a slap; Rin return fire with one of her own. And so, the Great Slap Battle of 2019 commenced. That lasted for about forty seconds or so.
And at end of it all? Both of them were standing. Both of them still had that fire in their eyes.
A few more forearms and elbows got tossed out. However, they weren’t fast and sharp. Instead, they were slow and weighted. They were trying to knock each other clean out…
But that didn’t happen. Both of them stood valiantly.
Milena eventually grew tired of the exchange and decided to flip the script. She floored Rin with a snapmare and then blasted her in the spine with a kick. It sent shock-waves all through Rin’s body. However, the String Style Saint gritted her teeth and stood back up. Well, that prompted Milena to take a seat on the mat. She told Rin to deliver her best shot.
And boy, did she ever.
A fan later told me she could hear Rin’s kick while she was in the restroom. Pain had to have shot up Milena’s spine…
But, she gritted her teeth and got right back up.
It was a matter of pride at that point. Therefore, Milena and Rin took turns allowing eachother to destroy their spines. That went on for about forty seconds or so. And in the end, they stood up and glared at each other.
Though, that standstill didn’t last too long. That was due (in part) to Rin. I didn’t speak to her before the bout, but I could kind of tell where her mind was at. Rin had been on the defensive side for most of the match when she fought ASURA. The same could be said for her match in HELL. She didn’t want that to happen again. And so, she pushed the pace and took it to Milena. She aggressively worked a number of kicks and knees. Some were meant to throw Milena out of rhythm; others were meant to put a hurting on the Yūgen Eternity Champion.
In the midst of her flurry, Rin rocked Milena with a sudden oblique kick. I don’t think I’d ever seen Rin throw one, certainly not here in Yugen. Neither had Milena; so, the blow caught her off guard and floored her. Milena instinctively rolled onto her stomach to protect herself. But that allowed Rin to rush in. She took side-control and began hammering Milena with knees to the sternum. Eventually, those knees began to get a little wild; so wild that the referee had to step in.
Milena? She didn’t seem too bothered. She held her ribs as stood to her feet. She also flashed a smirk of her own.
Once more, Rin and Milena traded strikes once they stood up. Milena’s didn’t have as much impact she they’d had before; her ribs and lungs were afflicting her. It looked as is Rin had gained the advantage with a headbutt to the chest—
Until Milena gritted her teeth and clobbered her with her Scorn reverse roundhouse.
Rin dropped to the mat.
Milena immediately dropped to the mat; then grabbed Rin’s arm and head. Milena gave her a look before she began murdering the challenger with elbows. After about six of them, the Eternity Champion slapped on a tight headscissors. She wanted to choke the life out of Rin. The Strong Style Saint found a way out of the hold by elbowing Milena’s legs. However, that simply led to an armbar transition. However, Rin was able to get her boots on the bottom rope to break the hold.
Milena was in control a few minutes later as she whipped Rin into the corner. As soon as Rin’s back hit the turnbuckle cover, Milena darted in. She leapt up and drilled Rin with an Extinction Crisis A V-Trigger. That caused Rin to collapse onto the mat. Milena? She shot herself into the adjacent corner. She looked to hit her Show Me Where It Hurts running double knee strike—
But it missed. Rin moved out of the way!
She then grabbed ahold of Milena’s neck and planted her with a reverse DDT. Rin went for the pinfall; two-count. Afterwards, Milena crawled into the corner to catch her breath. But she wasn’t given any time. Rin drilled her with kicks to the chest. A running dropkick then connected. From there, Rin pulled Milena out of the corner and went for another pinfall. Another two-count.
At that point, Rin looked to risk and end it all. She charged at rising Milena and intended to murder her with that Clunk! Helm knee strike…
But Milena caught that knee and leg. Her stomach was still hurting her as she got to her feet. Even still, Milena rose up and delivered a dragon screw whip. She also hit Rin with the reverse variation for good measure. Rin let out a groan from the pain.
Her suffering was far from over, however. Milena to work on that pained leg. She delivered multiple stomps to it. A leaping senton allowed Milena to put her whole body weight on that leg. Lastly, the Eternity Champion slapped on a kneebar. That didn’t help the matter for Rin; though, she was able to make it to the ropes after a bit of a struggle.
Milena must have pressed A+B on her mental controller, because that when the big moves came out. She planted Rin with a Head Over Heels Muscle Buster. That earned her a two-count. An even more vicious Extinction Crisis A found its mark. Milena went for the pinfall once more, but Rin kicked out.
The Eternity Champion was still breathing quite heavy. Regardless, she shot herself into the ropes. Another Extinction Crisis A was the intent―
Rin ducked underneath her knee!
Milena got rolled up with a schoolboy. Two-count. Milena got caught with another knee to the midsection as both wrestlers scrambled to their feet. A quick shining triangle choke put Milena in dire straights. Her stomach had to have been burning at that point. Even still, Milena used the last bit of her strength to drag herself to the ropes.
Rin? Her dominant leg was worse for wear, due to Milena’s punishment. But she had to endure the pain. Rin shot herself into the ropes. On the rebound, she drilled Milena with the best Clunk! that she could muster. Though, the shot sent more pain coursing through her knee. Even still, Rin drug herself over and hooked Milena’s leg for the pinfall…
But Milena kicked out!
That kick out would have frustrated most people, however, I think it simply made Rin respect Milena even more. It also told her what her next move needed to be:
Her release Tiger suplex.
Rin got to her feet and patted her leg to get the blood following before she grabbed ahold of Milena. She then attempted to hoist the Eternity Champion up―
That’s when Milena intentionally tensed her body up. She became deadweight in Rin’s hands. And that leg? That knee? It, just couldn’t take it. It buckled underneath the weight and sent Rin straight to the mat.
Milena? She promptly recovered and hit the ropes. And Extinction Crisis A connected…
But she wasn’t finished.
An Extinction Crisis B Bona Ye connected with the back of Rin’s head for good measure. Milena then dropped down and went for the pinfall.
The fans in attendance showed their appreciation for a hard-fought battle. Once Milena was able to stand, her hand was risen and she was given her Yūgen Eternity Championship. She lingered long enough to shake my hand and for the photographers to do their job. Afterwards, she headed to the back.
She wasn’t normally one to show emotion, but Rin had tears in her eyes. Taree and Mie hit the ring. They helped pick her up and dried her eyes. The referee then handed Rin her Yūgen Ecstasy Gate Championship belt.
How did the fans respond to Rin specifically? They shouted her name and offered up many hand claps. She’d fought well that night, it just wasn’t her time to become the Eternity Champion. The woman who’d beaten the ace reigned supreme.
Adrianna, Yūgen’s very own EXceleration Champion, appeared on the screen to close out the show. She thanked all the fans for coming out and watching some amazing wrestling…
And then she turned her attention towards Hisano.
She began by praising Hisano’s talent. Despite her nasty disposition, the Dark Empress was quite skilled in the ring. However, she re-enforced the fact that she didn’t care for Hisano as a person. Adrianna called her vile. Adrianna said that is the reason why the early Yūgen fans favored Kagami over Hisano. One was pure of heart; the other’s was as black as the night’s sky.
Her eyes glanced down at the EXceleration Championship in her hand.
Adrianna stated that she and Kagami were quite alike. They were both fighters. They were both full of heart. And they both did what they thought was right. She said that she knew she couldn’t consider herself the Ace of all of Yūgen. She hadn’t won the Eternity Championship; and that spot still belonged to Kagami when she returned. However, she viewed herself as the Ace of the EXceleration Division; the Ace of everyone who was hungry and willing to fight for the company that took a chance on them. She proved that by defeating Hisano. And if anyone, including those masked-jackasses wanted smoke, she’d prove it to them too…
